Grandparent Fest '08

Best Day Ever

So this morning Eleanor started fully responding back to us by smiling and laughing when we talk to her. Every single time I think she's the most amazing thing ever, she does something new and even more wonderful. Then she poops.

Ellie's first Spring Break

Right after this photo was taken, Ellie did a keg stand. I mean, breast stand.

Eleanor's Crib Blanket

Designed by mom. Sewn by Grandma I. Envied by babies everywhere.

Family Road Trip - 1!

Palm Springs, here we came. Yesterday we loaded up what would seem to be enough baby gear for an expedition to the Arctic and headed down the 10 to meet Grandma and Grandpa I. for the first time.

Needless to say, Ellie was a hit.

Ellie's four-week update

We're pretty blown away by the fact that our little lady bug has been here for four weeks now (though technically her one-month birthday isn't until tomorrow). And Ellie marked the occasion with a pretty big week.

On Monday we lost the last remnants of umbilical cord scabby nasty thing.

On Tuesday we gave mom an afternoon to herself and were rewarded with a wicked hot new haircut (grrr, mom).

On Wednesday mom headed back to school and Ellie and I headed over to visit her for lunch. We checked out the UCLA Law campus, met a bunch of mom's classmates and inhaled more pollen than one could have imagined existed on an entire planet, let alone a corner of a university. We also had a successful full day of bottle feedings and had a great time.* Though make no mistake, mom walking through the door was welcome relief for all involved.

Then yesterday it was time for our first family road trip! We loaded up the car and headed to Palm Springs (technically, Rancho Mirage) to visit Mindy's parents who are there for the rest of the month. But you can read more about that in the next post...

Today we're gearing up for Ellie's first trip to Target. Like I said, it's been a big week.

Getting ready for tomorrow...

Today mom ran a couple of errands and left me and Ellie to practice for tomorrow's big return to school.

I practiced by worrying about the feedings going well. Eleanor practiced by sleeping. And pooping.*

We're not really sure...

\But we think this might be an attempt at Baby Semaphore.

You know what...

Let's just make that time in general.

You know who doesn't really respect Daylight Savings Time?

Babies.

Ellie's three-week update

Hey all, just wanted to check in and give you an update on life in Eleanorland. Today was Ellie's three-week birthday (we were going to get her a pony, but we didn't want to spoil her... maybe at five weeks).

As you regular readers know, she is now sans umbilical cord and just about to regular belly button status. It's looking like an innie, but we'll keep you posted.

Ellie's been doing some bottle feeding over the last few days to get ready for mom's return to school next week. So far the bottle sessions have been great, though tonight brought a Linda Blair-esque spitup. Oh well. Though Min will only be in school two days a week and will FINALLY be all done in May, we're practicing to make sure Ellie's dad-only days go as smoothly as possible.

We also took Eleanor on her first stroller (or as she insists on calling it, her "whip") outing this afternoon and she did great. We've been carrying her in the wrap to this point. It can't be beat for a feeling of closeness, but on a hot day like today the stroller was a welcome change.

Other than that we just keep being blown away by our little lady. I say this from a position of total objectivity, but she's pretty much the most amazing thing in the history of the universe.

Okay then, off to "sleep" now.

Familial love or shrewd personal finance?

You decide...

Thanks, Ariella and Heather!
